ART WALKS was a series of free walking tours sampling a dynamic mix of galleries and other creative spaces across central Auckland, guided by informed, accessible and engaging speakers on art. Held on 20 and 27 March 2021, each tour was focused on a key region within Auckland City Centre, K’ Road, Parnell and Ponsonby.
ART WALKS was an independent audience development initiative curated and project managed by Emil McAvoy, and generously funded by Heart of the City, Karangahape Road Business Association, Parnell Business Association and Love Ponsonby. The tour guides were Megan Shaw, Claire Chamberlain, Linda Tyler, Evan Woodruffe and Emil McAvoy.
ART WALKS was also timed to closely follow the Auckland Art Fair, and supported by it to capitalise on audience interest stimulated by the Fair and offer further opportunities to connect with local galleries, creative spaces, artists, art professionals and enthusiasts. Almost every tour booked out and audience and other stakeholder feedback was resoundingly positive. In future, it is hoped ART WALKS will return on a project basis in partnership with a range of organisations and platforms.
